• International standards bodies and BSI have
extensive governance procedures - which
are applied
• In the UK the role of the NO is critical to
enable their members to influence standards
• To avoid erosion affecting all - we need a
reference standard for functional safety - for
all the criticism of its faults I haven’t found
a better one than IEC 61508!
