Advantages: Inverse Planning
• Inverse planning for IMRT has several
advantages over traditional forward planning:
Improved dose homogeneity inside the target
volume and better potential for limited irradiation
of surrounding OARs
Increased speed and less complexity in finding
an optimised dose distribution.
Allows treatment of areas that may otherwise be
impossible to treat (e.g. head and neck close to
critical structures, re-treatments)
