“It was a major pain in the arse,” says the former
Oasis man about taking on production duties for
Chasing Yesterday
, in characteristically blunt
fashion. However, it’s proven to be an inspired
decision: the second album from Gallagher and his
High Flying Birds features a much broader array
of instrumentation, resulting in a
rich, expansive and multi-layered
record that draws from a range of
disparate influences, from west
coast rock to classic rock’n’roll an
deven some space jazz!
This new compilation from the legendary British
pub rockers pays tribute to original guitarist Wilko
Johnson, who continues to fight back from what was
thought to be a terminal case of cancer. Subtitled
The Best of the Wilko Johnson Years
, this 16 track
collection includes classics such
as
Roxette
and
Riot in Cell Block
Number 9
, plus live versions of
favourites
I’m A Man
and
Back in
the Night
. With Johnson’s strafing
guitar riffing to the fore, this the
perfect introduction to Dr Feelgood.
The country icon’s 16th studio album takes its title
from the 1930s Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit
model, which also inspired the Robert Johnson
classic
Terraplane Blues
. As its title suggests, the
album is very much a blues record and was recorded
by Earle and his seasoned backing band at the House
of Blues Studio D in Nashville.
Terraplane
marries Earle’s masterfu
lstorytelling with the classic sounds
of Texan blues greats such as
Freddie King, Lightning Hopkins
and Johnny Winter.
The third full length album from the metalcore mavens
coincides with their first ever New Zealand appearance
at March’s Westfest 2015.
Just Like You
is their
follow up to 2013’s
Fashionably Late
, and finds Falling
In Reverse blazing new pathways, bridging the gap
between brutal metal and pop rock.
It includes the singles
Guillotine IV
(the Final Chapter)
and
God if You
are Above
, plus the moving ballad
Brother,
which finds frontman
Ronnie Radke addressing the loss
of a close family member.
As with the previous deluxe editions, Led Zep’s
double-disc mothership has been newly remastered
by Jimmy Page and is accompanied by a disc
of previously unreleased recordings. One of the
greatest double albums of all time,
Physical Graffiti
represents a creative tour de force
that explores the band’s dynamic
musical range, from the driving
rock of
Custard Pie
and acoustic
blues of
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
to the
Eastern raga of
Kashmir
and funky
groove of
Trampled Under Foot
.
This timeless collection of previously unreleased
tracks from the gospel soul legend was put together
by his daughter Mavis, and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy.
Taking its title from the instructions Pops gave Mavis
while listening to the unfinished recordings,
Don’t
Lose This
showcases Staples’ greatest strengths: his
amaranthine voice and passionate
guitar playing. The resulting album
serves as a testament of Pops’
enduring talent, with an emotional
delivery as complete
as any previous recording.
