CLASS REPS: Karen Jewett Allen, Anne Langford
Dotsikas and Naomi Sedgwick Schafler
For many of us without children at home, the empty nest
is filled instead with the needs of aging parents. Still,
reports
Naomi Sedgwick-Schafler
, “we are enjoying a
time of good health, strong family ties and great, great
friendships.”
Anne Langford Dotsikas
self-published her food
memoir,
with love and sugar: recipes and rituals for the
sweet life
.
Robyn Johnston Stafl
was among her test
bakers. Read more about Anne’s adventures on page
14.
Karen Jewett Allen
is looking ahead to her first
empty nest holiday this October with her husband Tim.
Kimberley (Kim) Jones MacLaurin
says that she’s
“always trying to learn something” and this year, that
included a memoir-writing course last summer, beginner
Italian in the fall and, now, night school for intermediate
Mandarin.
Deborah (Deb) Grant Aben
is “super happy
in her ‘dream job’ as executive director of The Kawartha
Haliburton Children’s Foundation. Even better was
hearing my endocrinologist tell me that I am officially
cancer-free!”
Fiona Gillberry Spizzirri
has a new home with more
space for “big loud energetic boys who have lots of
wonderful friends who shower less than I’d like.” Busy
board member
Michelle Koerner
(National Ballet School,
Art Canada Institute, National Gallery) spends her free
time at art galleries with her three young kids in tow and
will soon become a HC parent, as her oldest daughter
starts Grade 7 in the fall of 2017. Others with kids still
at HC include
Eva Kowalski Langford, Karen Beatty,
Anne Lawrence Harrop
and
Pauline Chan-Thomas
.
Those reporting rewarding volunteer work include
Sybil Browne Taylor
, who frequently makes public
speaking appearances addressing college and university
students, and also volunteers as chair of the advisory
committee for Georgian College’s advertising and
marketing communications program.
Nancy Peterson
mentors young entrepreneurs “as much as I can” after
selling HomeStars to the U.S. company, HomeAdvisor.

someone close to her through some personal struggles.
Also facing health challenges with courage and
strength this year was
Elizabeth (Beth) Morson
, who
returned to work after
breast cancer treatment
only to face further surgery
for a herniated disc. Beth
plans to take the summer
off at her cottage on
Rideau Lake and invites
us all to drop by.
Mary
Little
suffered a stroke last
Christmas that affected her
right arm and leg, but found
