STACK

music-

heads, and welcome to my

little update for February.

I’m back in my native urban

environment after the Tamworth

Country Music Festival, which

featured a stack of excellent

performances: Lee Kernaghan

showed us why he’s still on top,

Adam Brand and the Outlaws

played several tracks from the

group’s new self-titled album, and

Jasmine Rae, Beccy Cole, The

McClymonts and Troy Cassar-Daley

all impressed. Looking ahead,

February is all about St Jerome’s

Laneway festival and its sideshows.

I’m keen as mustard to catch our

February Album of the Month

recipients DMA’s (well deserved),

who are doing their label I OHYOU

proud with a string of sold-out

shows this year. Others I'm looking

forward to on the line-up are

Melbourne duo Big Scary, Zachary

Cole’s band DIIV, from Brooklyn,

who’ll be playing tracks from their

new album

Is The Is Are

, (review on

page 16) and our recent feature

artists CHVRCHES who have their

wonderful second release

Every

Open Eye

to spruik. Also gracing

the fest’s stages will be Grimes,

Hermitude, Royal Headache,

Methyl Ethel and Shamir – it’s

going to be enormous, whichever

city you’re in. Don’t forget to check

out the Grammys on February 15,

and until then, keep your head in

the music.

The Platters

That Matter

S

he might be an "old school

metalhead" at heart, but

KeriaWells – Music Co-

ordinator at Queensland's

Robina store – gets cute

when Leon Bridges comes

up. "[

Coming Home

] is my

favourite album of last year,"

she attests. "It's my pick for

2015. It should be played

on vinyl." Bridges' soulful

debut joins the list of titles

absolutely "flying out the door"

on the wax, as Keira reports.

"Lately N.W.A. [

Straight Outta

Compton

] has been doing

really well, and Nirvana's

always up there - but that's

not surprising, they're always

getting new fans," she says.

"TheWeeknd is also really

popular; I actually really

like that album. I've been

branching off lately!" But back

to her roots: In addition to the

classics from Def Leppard

and Iron Maiden, Keira likes to

spin some of the newer metal

stuff too: "Killer Be Killed,

Parkway Drive, Killswitch

Engage... I'm a bit of an all-

rounder," she laughs. "I like it

all. The more music for me,

the better."

Don’t forget, you can always order hard-to-find vinyl via the JB Hi-Fi website.
