G
reetings to all you
STACK
music lovers; I hope your
September was as
chaotically music-filled as mine was.
I’ve just come back from London
where I had the immense pleasure
of seeing David Gilmour at Royal
Albert Hall. The former Pink Floyd
man has just released his fourth
solo album
Rattle That Lock
(four
stars from Mr Paul Jones), and it
was incredible to see him play a
selection of the release’s ten tracks,
which all revolve around the theme
of one day. Then it was back on
home for some Aussie fare:
precocious Sydney group DMA’s
definitely delivered on their Brit-pop-
inspired debut EP at Melbourne
venue Howler, and I’ll be back there
shortly for alt-pop four-piece City
Calm Down – if you haven’t heard
them yet, go straight to their single
Rabbit Run
and you’ll be looking up
tour dates in no time. For the
Melbourne Festival (which runs
October 8 – 25), I can’t go past The
Fall. Founder and only remaining
original member Mark E Smith is
bringing his cult Mancunian band to
the bash, and they’ve got plenty of
material from which to choose their
set – 31 studio albums, in fact.
Meanwhile, Tina Arena’s eleventh
studio album is out at the end of
the month (
Eleven
), and to
celebrate that achievement the
singer herself will be spending
some time behind the counter at
our Bourke Street, Melbourne store
– check the JB site later on in the
month to ensure you don’t miss her.
Until then, be good and keep your
head in the music.

N
o prizes for guessing the current top seller
at JB’s Cranbourne Park Home store. “Bring
Me The Horizon –
That’s The Spirit
; that’s the one
everyone’s buying!” says the lovely Christina
Rewha. The CD/DVD Co-ordinator adds that the
classics of choice for Victoria’s east revolve around
the Fab Four, with
The White Album
and
Abbey Road
doing particularly well.
“And Led Zeppelin, too, of course,” she
laughs. Christina is an avid old school
soul collector, who counts Otis Redding,
Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye amongst
her favourites – but her most prized LP
is something even cooler than those
cats. “I have the limited edition
Wizard
Of Oz
on emerald green vinyl,” she
says. “My partner got it for me for my
birthday last year – I didn’t even realise
it was available.” It’s extremely rare, so
big snaps to Christina’s SO for the score.
