ULSTER RUGBY SUPPORT 20:20 CYCLE CHALLENGE

TO RAISE AWARENESS OF DEMENTIA

The event is being held at Youth Sport, in Omagh, on

Sunday 15th May, and will kick of this year’s Dementia

Awareness Week (15-21 May) where a variety of activities

and events held by the Alzheimer’s Society will be

happening every day across Northern Ireland.

Ulster Rugby has teamed up with Alzheimer’s Society as

their official charity partner for the 2015/16 season.

This year’s Dementia Awareness Week is about

encouraging people to confront dementia head on, be

aware that you can do something about your worries and

come to Alzheimer’s Society for help and support.

Alzheimer’s Society is tackling the many myths and

misunderstandings about dementia – because life

doesn’t end when dementia begins.

The sooner you confront dementia by coming to us for

information and support, the better your chance will be

of getting the right treatment, support and advice to

tackle it.

There will be a number of cycle options available on

the day to accumulate the 20,000 miles target, these

include:

Ulster player Roger Wilson said: “This is one of the many

worthwhile events which we have supported during our

charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society this year and

we would encourage as many people as possible to get

on their bikes to support the 20:20 cycle challenge.

“20,000 miles represents the 20,000 people now living

here with dementia, and we are delighted to be able

to help raise funds and awareness of the services that

Alzheimer’s Society offer, to our many supporters and

indeed the wider community.”

Richard Gilliland, from Alzheimer’s Society in Northern

Ireland, said: “We are really excited that Ulster Rugby

is supporting the 20:20 cycle challenge which will be

kicking off Dementia Awareness Week and we urge

people from here to come and take part in this cycle

challenge.

“There are 20,000 people with dementia living in

Northern Ireland, and we want everyone to come

together, regardless of their fitness levels or age, and

cycle a combined distance of 20,000 miles in order

to highlight just how many people are living with the

condition and raise awareness that many of them can

and are living well with dementia with the right support

and information.”
