Chapter 5

The Law Fulfilled

The Staff, a Branch

Divine law is not a law—it is a set of precepts that act as a guiding light to

influence or rule personal behavior. The loving precepts conflict with law,

for the law is enacted to mandate human behavior. Although well

intentioned, these mandates are reflective of behavior after the fact.

Nothing is perfect within the law, because the law justifies those who rule

under it; the law becomes a self-serving mandate. Divine law is self-

discipline with a precept to love and uphold morality, not a set of mandates

[human law] that are imperfect.

Prophetically, the branch is a part of the vine, and it is the essence of the

staff, for the staff is in the shape of the branch. The staff is a mature branch

that represents a tool for the shepherd, who symbolizes one who leads the

sheep.

The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture

does not say ‘and to seeds,’ meaning many people, but ‘and to

meaning

. What I mean is this: The law,

introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously

established by God and thus do away with the promise. For
