The title tells you all you really need to know about this
lively zom-com. A trio of scouts Ben (Tye Sheridan),
Carter (Logan Miller) and Augie (Joey Morgan) find their
camping trip in the mountains rudely interrupted by a
zombie outbreak. Hightailing it back into town, they're
joined by a sexy barmaid, who helps them slice and dice
their way through a horde of the living dead in order to
get to a party and rescue Carter's sister, whom Ben has
a crush on. With the gag department located below the
belt, the real laughs come from the often creative bursts
of gore, and the inclusion of zombie strippers, pets and roadkill. It's the
kind of zombie movie Seth Rogen and James Franco would make if
co-writer and director John Landon hadn't beaten them to it. 14-year-old
boys will hail this as one of the greatest films ever made. SH

SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE
We've seen snakes on a plane,
now there are werewolves on a
train in this moody British monster
movie from makeup FX guy turned
director, Paul Hyett. With credits
like The Descent and Doomsday on
his CV, it's no surprise the beasts
are the real stars of this survivalist
tale, although they do take a while
to show up. That leaves time to
work out who will live and die
amongst the commuters aboard a
late-night train which breaks down
in the English woods, beneath
a full moon. Part of the fun is
watching Downton Abbey 's Ed
Speleers transform from timid
ticket inspector to reluctant hero,
whilst looking understandably
bewildered throughout. SH

Truly great bad movies aren't
deliberately made, they just
happen. Ed Wood proved that when
total belief in your film outweighs
your abilities as a filmmaker, the
result is a crap-classic. Auteur
James Nguyen follows his example
with this "romantic thriller" that
pays homage to a certain Hitchcock
film and warns us of the dangers
of global warming. Birdemic:
Shock and Terror is all kinds of
awesome – terrible in absolutely
every department, it's the kind of
movie that becomes an instant cult
hit through its sheer, gobsmacking
ineptitude. Forget calculated
rubbish like Sharknado, this is the
real deal. (Available on Blu-ray only

it doesn't stray too far from the established formula, the 3D ensures
that Paranormal Activity 6 lives up to its subtitle. SH

that Anna – who is very much at
home – has a few twisty tricks up
her sleeve. Panic Room collides
with Saw in this horror-tinged girl

isn’t all of those internet memes
he’s been starring in, rather his
character – Louisiana congressman
Colin Pryce – is justifiably furious
about the BP oil spill that’s
destroying the livelihoods of his
constituents. An impassioned
address to congress regarding
the tragic after effects sees Pryce
elevated to potential senator
status, but his inability to keep
certain dangly bits in his pants soon
scuppers those plans, thanks to a
video that goes viral super-quick.
Skids are subsequently hit in this
fictional drama that’s dipped in some
fact, before redemption of sorts
comes – but what’s the price for
compromising your principles? AF
