The idea of motion capture is to use high-

resolution cameras and special sensors to

film a person performing an athletic move.

That move can then be broken down on the

computer into tiny parts; it can also be ma-

nipulated by a coach or an athlete to find the

perfect motion—or to spot flaws in the ath-

lete’s current motion.

The technology behind motion capture is

similar to that used to create video games

and some special effects in the movies. The
