Should possess the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, mathematics or a related
scientific field.
Should demonstrate technically competent written and oral communication and networking skills.
Should demonstrate leadership capabilities through documentation of project management,
supervisory experience, or leadership positions within AOAC.
Should have experience in the AOAC collaborative study process.
Should be familiar with the AOAC Program Manual and the Official Methods of Analysis appendices.
Should have successfully completed OMB training in the method validation process, demonstrate
ability to perform adequate review of AOAC collaborative studies, and agree to appropriate
retraining at least every three years.
OMB MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to attend meeting(s) and contribute to OMB’s body of work.
Perform duties and reviews in timely fashion.
Demonstrated knowledge of areas of expertise and communities.
Work as a team member and also independently.
Must be able to assume leadership on OMB task groups and working groups.
Must be willing to serve a leadership role on behalf of the OMB within the communities such as:

OMB Liaison
o
Stakeholder Advisors
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OMB:
Provide open and independent scientific oversight for the processes of the Association.
May be required to establish policies and procedures for the consideration and adoption of
methods.
Oversee validation process in terms of approving/recommending appointments for experts.
Commit to preparation for and attendance at the scheduled OMB meetings to be held in
Gaithersburg, MD and at the AOAC Annual Meeting, including financial support for travel.
Lead assigned funded projects/activities of the OMB.
Identify any potential conflict of interest and report immediately to the Chair of the OMB and AOAC
Staff Liaison.
DUTY OF CARE:
The OMB member must be prepared to participate in and contribute to
deliberations and decisions.
DUTY OF LOYALTY:
The OMB member must always act in the best interest of the organization,
regardless of personal issues.
DUTY OF OBEDIENCE:
The OMB member must abide by the consensus decisions of the Official
Methods Board.
Implement the policies approved by the AOAC INTERATIONAL Board of
Directors.
