The Rules
Dealers must display a Used Car Buyer’s Guide prominently in every used car offered for sale

. If your
dealership conducts transactions in Spanish, be sure to provide the Spanish version of the Buyer’s Guide to
your customer.
Dealers must complete each Buyer’s Guide by filling in:
•
Vehicle information at the top: make, model, model year and VIN;
•
Warranty information: check theWarranty box and either full or limited to indicate the type of warranty
provided;
•
If you offer a Service Contract, you must check the box indicating it is available to the customer;
•
On the back of the Guide, complete the dealer identification section by filling in the name and address
of the dealership; and provide the name and phone number of the person to contact if a customer has
a complaint.
At the time of sale, dealers should have customers
sign the Buyer’s Guide and provide a copy or the
original Buyer’s Guide to the customer. The Guide
must include all final changes if any were
made during the sale. Keep a copy of the
signed Guide in your deal jacket.

The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs
(DCA) has cited dealers for failing to include required
information on Used Car Buyer’s Guides hanging in
car windows. According to the DCA, the DCA number
should be provided on the formwith all the required
information.
