CAPITAL EQUIPMENT NEWS

Crushing and screening equipment maker

Trio reports that smaller independent

quarries and concrete recycling operations

in Africa and the Middle East are quickly

responding to an insatiable need for

construction materials by using its crushing

and screening gear.

JD Singleton, general manager responsi-

ble for Trio products at Weir Minerals Africa,

says these markets need equipment that can

be deployed rapidly to take full advantage of

infrastructure and private property develop-

ments under way in their surroundings.

“All the crushers and screens in the Trio

range can be mounted on skids, doing

away with the need for large civil-related

infrastructure to support these plants,” says

Singleton. “Furthermore, all the common

models of jaw crushers, cone crushers,

grizzly and belt feeders, vertical shaft impact

crushers, horizontal shaft impact crushers,

conveyor sections and hoppers are kept

in stock in Johannesburg. This allows us

to service the market with very short lead

times, if not same day delivery.”

The company’s products are also said to

be cost competitive and easy to maintain

on site, two more traits that are driving an

increasing installed base throughout Africa

and the Middle East. However, it is also

Weir Minerals Africa’s strong presence

in the mining regions on the continent

and the Middle East that is driving the

growth of these solutions. Singleton says

the company is investing significantly into

augmenting technical aftersales support and

infrastructure in these growth areas.

“These operations are very aware of the

prominent role that we have played in the

formal mining industry for many years, and

understand the value we are able to bring to

their operations,” he says.

While the demand for aggregate and

sand production continues to grow, Rasheel

Sukdhoe, product manager for Trio crushers

at Weir Minerals Africa, says Trio solutions

are also being used in concrete recycling and

slag processing operations. Trio products

can easily be commissioned on building and

landfill sites, as well as on mine waste rock

dumps. Sukdhoe says that since acquiring

the Trio group of companies in 2014, Weir

Minerals has been investing significantly

into enhancing the offering.

This is reflected by the launch of the Trio

TP range of cone crushers which incorpo-

rates a higher pivot point, thus providing

more crushing action and increasing the

percentage product passing the closed side

setting. “The design features a steep crush-

ing chamber angle, a large crushing stroke

and optimum speed to deliver a finer product

through increased inter-particle comminu-

tion,” says Sukdhoe.

MATERIALS PROCESSING

The need to crush and make the most of

all available material has prompted quarry

operators to look at ways of profiting from

“waste material” that may be simply piled

up for spoil in the quarry. To obtain the

desired sizes in the shortest time possible,

while maximising the operating profitability

per cubic metre, there is need to have agile

equipment, able to move without problems

and reach areas where only excavators can

go.

To respond to these needs, MB Crusher

says it has developed a range of bucket

crushers and screeners designed specifically

for quarry sites. The three models comprise

the BF 135.8 bucket crusher, which is

suitable for excavators from 43 t; the BF

150.10 bucket crusher, ideal for excavators

with over 70 t operating weight; and the MB-

S23 screening bucket, said to be a success in

quarries around the world.

The MB-S23 is claimed to be the largest

screening bucket in the world with a load

capacity of 4,3 m³ and a depth of 1 490 mm

basket well.

MB reports that it has made strong in-

roads with its bucket crushers across many

quarries globally. For example, in northern

Turkey, Bilecik Marble Quarry is using the

BF135.8 bucket crushers not only to assist

in mining activities, but also to shatter the

material required for the rehabilitation of the

quarry roads. The considerable advantage,

guaranteed by the versatility of the equip-

ment, is that the material is crushed where

it is needed, without having to employ a unit

for transport. As a result, the slopes of the

quarry are always pristine, with positive

impact on the maintenance of the quarry

machines and, in general, the productivity

of the operation. The BF135.8 has a max-

imum production of 88 m³ per hour and a

loading capacity of 1,6 m.

MB bucket crushers save the day

Terex Minerals Processing Systems (MPS)

launched its ‘Making New Tracks’ large

mobile plant strategy at MINExpo Inter-

national Show in Las Vegas, on 26-28

September 2015.

“We have three new large tracked mobile

plants which enable Terex MPS to diversify

further from our modular, portable and static

offerings. With over 100 years in the indus-

try we now have a strong product portfolio

offering customers from a wide range of in-

dustries, cost-effective solutions for the long

term,” says David Quail, Terex MPS market

area director for Americas.

Terex MPS’s LJ5532 comes with its famous

Terex JW55 single toggle heavy duty jaw

crusher mounted on a tracked chassis. The

hydraulically adjusted jaw crusher, requiring

no shim packing, allows the CSS of the jaw

to be adjusted in a matter of seconds.

The LJ3255 features an independent pre-

screen, located before the crusher, which

helps bypass or remove any undersized ma-

terial or feed material that has a high content

of dirty fines, thereby promoting maximum

throughput performance, as well as enhanc-

ing the heavy duty manganese wear life.

Meanwhile, the LC450 incorporates the

Cedarapids MVP450X all roller bearing

cone crusher. The cone crusher comes with

a hydraulic, maintenance free, anti-spin

device that helps improve cone liner wear

life, as well as a hydraulic tramp overload

protection system, TIR, that helps clear the

crushing chamber of any potential tramp

metal that may have entered the crusher

with the feed material. The LC450 tracked

cone crusher also incorporates an automated

metal detection system, located on the heavy

duty feed conveyor, which stops the conveyor

before the metal contaminant reaches the

crusher. The plant also has the patented

metal purge system that reduces downtime

when removing the metal contaminate from

the feed conveyor.
