M yrna Leah Fischman is an accredited accountant and educator who has had much success in her field. She began her career as a teacher of accounting at Norman Thomas High School, formerly known as Central Commercial High School, in 1960. She stayed in that position for three years until deciding to move into higher education. Now in a new area, Ms. Fischman became an instructor of accounting at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). With hard work, she continued to flourish and excel in her career. She is a member of several education and accounting-related organizations. Her continued dedication to her field was influential in earning her various awards, including a special director’s award in recognition of 40 years of service to the Volunteers in Technical program, a Lifetime

Achievement Award, an award from Soroptimist International Brooklyn, an award for meritorious service, and an award from the Community Service Society. Her contributions to her field also include improvements for colleges in the New York City area. She has developed a new business course and curriculum at BMCC, brought an IRS program to the LIU Brooklyn campus, and created the latter’s Center for Accounting and Tax Education program. She has been vital in the development of 150-hour bachelor’s and master’s programs for LIU’s Brooklyn, C.W. Post and Southampton campuses in preparation for the CPA exam, which has been approved by the NYS Education Department. She has also given back to her field in the form of a scholarship, which bears her name and recognizes students who excel in accounting. Ms. Fischman is currently serving as director of LIU Brooklyn’s Center for Accounting and Tax Education, as well as the director for the LIU School of Professional Accountancy, all while fulfilling her duties as a professor of taxation and law.
