Klarinettist Reto Bieri ist in Zug aufgewachsen und hat damit in Engelberg fast ein Heimspiel. Having grown up in nearby Zug, clarinettist Reto Bieri is no stranger to Engelberg.

Mit Dénes Várjon am Klavier ist ein begnadeter Künstler zu Gast.

Izabella Simon spielte am Kla- vier schon an den Salzburger Festspielen, in New York oder an den Zürcher Festspielen. Izabella Simon has previ- ously performed on the piano in New York and at the Salz- burg and Zurich festivals.

Chamber music festival Zwischentöne was held for the first time in Engelberg in late October 2015 – much to the excitement of public and press alike. Newspapers Neue Luzerner Zeitung and Neue Zürcher Zeitung raved about the festival’s successful debut and extolled the beauty and atmosphere of its setting. Engelberg Abbey, which used to of fer musica l master classes in the space, was quick ly won over by the idea for the festiva l. The name “Zwischentöne” (litera lly translating as “ between the notes” or “semi-tones”) refers to how the essence of music of ten lies in its nuances, as well as to the dia logue between musicians and audi- ence. The lat ter is of par ticu lar impor tance for this festiva l, as the programme includes open workshops, detailed introduc tions to concer ts, and meet-and-greet oppor tunities at a post-concer t dinner and a drinks reception. Plus, those who opt for the three-day festiva l pass stay in the same hotel as the musicians. The chamber musicians have an inspir- ing venue here in Engelberg – somewhere far f rom the hec tic day-to-day world of the mu- sic business where they can come together with other passionate chamber musicians
