Musikalisch durch den Sommer Die Konzertreihe «Jazz in der Dorfstrasse» verspricht vom 8. Juli bis am 15. August 2016 einen musika- lischen Hörgenuss der Extraklasse. Verschiedene Jazz-Formationen lassen jeweils am Freitagabend ihre Trompe- ten- und Saxophonklänge gepaart mit gefühlvollen Vocals und pulsierenden Drums durch die Strassen schwin- gen. Die Konzerte finden zwischen 17.00 und 19.00 Uhr unter freiem Himmel vor verschiedenen Hotels/ Restaurants statt und sind kostenlos. Zwischen dem 6. Juli und dem 3. August 2016 findet jeden Mittwochabend um 20.00 Uhr der «Engelberger Orgelsommer» in der Klosterkirche statt. Der Eintritt zu den hochstehenden Orgelkonzerten ist frei, es wird eine Kollekte erhoben. Für Liebhaber der Volksmusik sind die Konzerte im Kurpark zu emp- fehlen. Vom 21. Juli bis am 18. August 2016 spielen an mehreren Donnersta- gen die Musikgesellschaft Engelberg und der Jodlerklub Engelberg auf. Am 14. Juli und am 11. August 2016 findet im Rahmen dieser Volksmusikkon- zerte eine «Stubete» statt. An diesen Folklore-Abenden sind Alphorn-, Trinkler- und Jodlerklänge zu hören und die Kindertrachtengruppe führt ihre Tänze auf. Der Eintritt zu den Konzerten, die bei schlechtem Wet- ter im Kursaal stattfinden, ist frei.

Spannendes aus dem Talmuseum Das Talmuseum Engelberg bie- tet ein spannendes Sommerprogramm. Am 4. Juni 2016 findet um 17 Uhr die Vernissage zur Ausstellung «Aufblü- hen» von Eugen Bollin statt. Bis am 9. Oktober 2016 präsentiert der Künstler und Benediktinermönch aus dem Kloster Engelberg seine Holzschnitte und Ölmalereien. «Einfache Männer – Grosse Ideen» – unter diesem Titel referiert am 17. Juni 2016 um 19.30 Uhr Romano Cuonz über den Hotelkönig Franz Josef Bucher und den Bergbahn- pionier Josef Durrer. Er erzählt, wie die beiden Obwaldner trotz kleinem Schulsack ein Parkett- und Hotelimpe- rium schufen. Am 19. August 2016 hält Charles Christen um 19.30 Uhr einen Vortrag über den ehemaligen Kur- und Verkehrsverein Engelberg, der 1883 gegründet wurde. Die operative Füh- rung eines historischen Hotels bringt besondere Herausforderungen und Chancen mit sich. Thomas Dittrich führt deshalb am 16. September 2016 durch das sich im Umbau befindliche Hotel Europäischer Hof und eröff- net spannende Einblicke in seine vielfältige Arbeitswelt. Treffpunkt: 19.30 Uhr, Lobby Europäischer Hof.

The slogan for Fisherman’s Friend – “Ta lk about strong!” – cou ld not be any more appropriate for the Fisherman’s Friend StrongmanRun! The four th edition of the largest ob- stacle race in Switzerland will take place in Engelberg on 4 June 2016. The tough, ambitious par ticipants have to conquer various obstacles on the approx. 20 km course that stretches right across the va lley. The obstacles include deep mud holes, icy rivers, towering straw ba les, scree slopes, giant stacks of ty res and, to top it a ll of f, a climb up the steep Titlis ski jump. It may sound crazy, but last year the StrongmanRun at- trac ted more than 7,000 par ticipants f rom 60 dif ferent countries. The wild outf its and par ty atmosphere prove that for most par ticipants it ’s not about winning the race – it ’s the tak- ing par t that counts! This fantastic mi x of f un and endurance, set amidst Engelberg’s beautif u l mountain landscape, makes the Strongman- Run a unique event for par ticipants and spec tators a like. Engelberg is the on ly StrongmanRun venue in Switzerland, but the event a lso takes place in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ita ly and the Netherlands. It has become a cu lt event across Europe and is believed to be the biggest obstacle race in the world.

Am selben Nachmittag findet auf der Gerschnialp eine Führung durch die Alpkäserei von Anselm Töngi statt. Der Donnerstag steht mit Fischen und Kayak fahren ganz im Zeichen des Wassers. Weitere Programmpunkte sind zum Beispiel Basteln, Bogen- schiessen oder Biken für Kinder.
