AUGUST 2018 BEACON

What a great month of Club events! We had Kids Day, Big Smoke along with the Surf & Turf, Ancient Mariners Horse Races, Float Down and finishing off with a the Rendezvous at GPYC. These events were extremely fun and well organized. I am amazed by all the talented members we have. Thank you for volunteering to organize these events. Coming up, we have Karaoke, the Rendezvous at Club Island, the Beatles Concert, Potluck and Labor Day Weekend. Labor Day is a special week end as we will be introducing the candidates running for NCYC 2019 board positions. I would like to thank everyone who is stepping up to the plate. Best of luck to all of you and don’t forget to bring out the campaign trinkets and candy for the bar. Great news in sharing our waterways as it has just gotten a whole lot easier for Canadian’s coming to the U.S.A. and American’s returning home on a pleasure craft. The CBP has introduced the “ROAM” app and you now report your arrival with an application on your smart phone. The following is an excerpt from the CBP web site: CBP Introduces a New Application for Small Boat Reporting in the Great Lakes DETROIT –As part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) comprehensive effort to improve the security of our nation's borders while enhancing legitimate travel, CBP has launched the Reporting Offsite Arrival – Mobile (ROAM) app and added Michigan to the list of available locations. The ROAM app offers a convenient, quick, and efficient alternative to the number currently used to report small vessel entry into Michigan by providing: • A streamlined reporting process with reusable traveler and mode of travel profiles • Shorter wait times by reporting from a smartphone instead of calling in • Remote inspections by CBP Officers (CBPO) using video chat as necessary Continued on Next Page
