THEME Trails and Connections – Trails and sidewalks should be attractive routes that safely connect parks and key city destinations.

ACTIONS

» » close gaps in the existing trail system. » » prioritize trails and pedestrian connections in all new development and redevelopment opportunities, and roadway repair projects. » » re-brand key trails in the system including the Minnesota River Valley State Trail (Shakopee Cultural Trail) and the Drainage Way Trail (Vierling Greenway). » » add sustainably built natural surface trails in natural areas to provide safe access to the environment. » » continue improving signage and wayfinding. » » prioritize connections across major barriers in the city - including Highway 169, Highway 101/ 1st Ave., Eagle Creek Blvd. Marschall Rd., and other arterial streets. » » maintain existing snowmobile routes and work to adjust routes as development and traffic increases throughout the city. » » integrate new trail types and activities to encourage movement such as:
