Parks, Trails & Recreation Master Plan

GAPS IN RECREATION FACILITIES Looking at the neighborhoods and areas of the City served through existing City-owned and operated recreational facilities and Shakopee Public Schools owned and operated facilities also reveals gaps in the system, making apparent potentially underserved regions of the City. The City of Shakopee and the Shakopee Public Schools have very similar service areas for their parks and recreation facilities. These duplicated service areas help provide more resources for residents within this region, however, it means that communities currently not within a comfortable walking distance of these City or school district parks and facilities are likely also not able to comfortably access facilities offered within the City of Shakopee. Overlaying this information onto a map reveals how proposed trail opportunities can begin to support a stronger network of connectivity and close some of these gaps, serving more areas of the City and providing parks, trails, and recreation services to the most people possible.
