Parks, Trails & Recreation Master Plan
YEAR-ROUND RESTROOM FACILITIES Restrooms are a critical piece of basic park infrastructure that allows enjoyment of facilities. Culturally, the importance of running water is critical with changing demographics in Shakopee. It is critical to provide a mix of restroom facilities throughout the city that include permanent buildings with running water, as well as portable restrooms that can be used seasonally and at smaller/less populated parks to fill gaps between restroom buildings. The following system wide recommendations apply to restrooms throughout the system. » » ensure ADA accessible facilities occur in a majority of parks across the city » » provide restrooms with running water at highly used parks and focus on sanitation and maintenance. It’s important to have sanitary facilities to be inclusive of religious and cultural groups, along with mothers with small children » » provide year round portable restrooms near athletic fields and popular walking paths » » dog waste - in addition to restrooms, dog sanitation is critical to preserving cleanliness and enjoyment of park spaces. provide doggy clean up stations and facilities along popular trails as well as parks that people typically bring dogs to » » provide operating hours and park rules at restrooms in multiple languages to creating welcoming parks for all » » drinking fountains are another basic park service that increases park enjoyment and usage. these facilities are often found in conjunction with restroom buildings
