Parks, Trails & Recreation Master Plan

COMMUNITY PARKS Community parks in Shakopee are generally larger in scale than neighborhood parks, but smaller than regional parks and are designed typically for residents who live within a three-mile radius. Amenities commonly found in community parks include passive outdoor activities as well as recreation opportunities for a wider range of members of the community. Refer to park classifications in Chapter 2 for more information on community parks, and see chart on page 168 for the specific facilities provided in each park listed below. Parks listed below that are highlighted in green have been identified for an updated or new concept plan that can be found on the respective page listed in this Master Plan:

ADDITIONAL FACILITIES OF NOTE As Shakopee continues the annexation process of Jackson Township, it is important to consider the facilities that will subsequently be added to the system through that process. A new athletic center owned and operated by the Shakopee school district is also under construction at the time of this Master Plan’s assembly, which will add a large amount of open sports fields for soccer and lacrosse to the school’s facilities roster:
