The Ploughing Match

The Newbury & District Agricultural Society’s annual Ploughing Match takes place on Saturday 19th October 2019. Visitors can enjoy the tradition of ploughing, featuring the latest state-of-the-art machinery, vintage tractors, working steam engines and the magnificent horse-drawn ploughs. With magnificent heavy horses decorated in ornate brass and leather harnesses, pulling a plough as well as many different styles of vintage tractor and more modern reversible ploughs, plus demonstrations of the latest and most powerful ploughing units, it’s a day you don’t want to miss. This year’s match will be held at Fishers Farm, Shefford Woodlands. Home to this year’s Royal County of Berkshire Show President, Dame Theresa Sackler. As well as the Ploughing Match, the hotly contested domestic competitions will take place with an array of homemade cakes, hedgerow liqueurs and local produce that will be available to sample and buy at the end of the day. Anyone can enter and all exhibits will be auctioned off at the end of the day and proceeds go to the Society’s chosen charity for this year, The Community Foundation.
