The Newbury & District Agricultural Society (NADAS) is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity, with the main purpose being to educate the general public in the need to preserve the countryside and wildlife and to promote and support the British agricultural, horticultural, forestry and rural crafts industries. This is achieved through a number of events and programmes throughout the year: The Royal County of Berkshire Show One of the top agricultural shows in the country, the Show supports and promotes the best in British food and farming. It takes place over the third weekend in September annually and has been running since 1909. NADAS educational programme Engaging children in countryside matters and boosting their appreciation of the vital role of the British Farming Industry. Visits are made to many schools across Berkshire, North Hampshire and South Oxfordshire. On farm competitions To help promote better and increased food production and to provide an opportunity for local farmers to showcase their food production as well as learn from their neighbours. The ploughing match Bringing the history of agriculture alongside the modern farming methods to life in this enjoyable age-old tradition of ploughing, and this takes place annually in October.
