Advice from OSE Hearing from OSE when they visited in the summer was an incredibly useful exercise. Listening to their experiences after School made all the Sixth Form guests aware how many different pathways are possible. Having left St Edward’s about five years ago, the speakers covered such vital topics as the challenge of arriving at university, what the workload is like, whether to take a year out and how to actually find a job. The most valuable advice I took away from the evening was to be persistent in job searching, to never be afraid to hassle, and to take advantage of all opportunities that come your way no matter how daunting they seem. Over dinner, I sat next to a man who had been at Durham, which is where I want to study. He was bubbly, charming and very helpful in answering all my questions about the University, both academic and social. Immy Higgins (Dragon) Like Immy, I was really surprised by the range of careers (or otherwise!) pursued by OSE. I met a Marketing Director at Saracens Rugby, a writer for various NGOs, a persistent ‘gapper’ and an Exeter undergraduate – who had previously spent time as a bus driver. I also met an Arabic speaker which was very helpful for me as I’m looking to read French and Arabic at university. Alex Niang (The London Oratory)
