JANUARY 2018 BEACON

Terri and I hope all of you had a great Christmas holiday with family and friends and we wish all of you the very best in 2018. Our first big event of 2018 is just weeks away; NCYC’s Commodores Ball Honoring Commodore Randy Pagel and his Lady Linda. We look forward to another successful year, 2018, with Commodore Randy at the helm. I hope that if you are considering going to the Commodore’s ball that you get your tickets soon. Remember that “ Participation Brings Success to Organizations ”. A big thanks to our immediate Past Commodore Pat Carroll and his lady Nancy for a great and successful 2017. The club looks better than ever and is in great shape. Behind every good Commodore is a good Board. I am looking forward to working with Vice Commodore Ian Blackburn, the current Board of Directors as well as the new incoming Directors. We welcome Debbie Siwek, Tom Altobelli, and returning for another three-year term, Darryl Campbell and Ron Draper. Thanks goes out to our out-going Board Member Kim Miedema for all her hard work on the Board, all of her great photo’s that capture the heart and spirit of our club through photography and her great dedication to N C Y C. Also thank you to out-going board recorder Don Ruma, always on time and accurate. Even though the clubhouse is closed, the work continues. I am sure you read in the Commodore’s article about the window project and its progression. My last project as Harbor and grounds was to have three new ice cluster pilings installed along the sea wall of the east harbor. The clusters are there to protect our sea wall from damage in the winter. This job was completed in early December By Ron’s Marine Construction. We are currently in the process of acquiring a five-year permit to replace or improve our sea wall as needed. In closing I thank you, the membership, for your support. I look forward to serving as N C Y C’s Rear Commodore in 2018. -Bill Calihan
