HOWTOCREATEARELAXINGRETREAT INYOURHOME With the fast pace of modern life, having a home you can retreat to is extremely important. Excessive stress isn’t only an emotional burden, it also can lead to a whole host of physical issues – even illness. Your home should be an escape from the stress of the outside world. And there are quite a few things you can do with your design and decor to help create that spa-like feeling in any room of your home.

Choose relaxing paint colours. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to pick white, grey and beige. If a deep red wall makes you happy and relaxed – then go for it. It’s about making a space that works for you. Choose comfortable furniture and accessories. Soft couches with high backs, ample throw pillows and a fuzzy blanket will allow you to sink in and curl up at the end of a hectic day. The right lighting is key. Natural light is a wonderful thing, but you also need to be able to pull the curtains and

shut out the world. Also, having several sources of lighting for different tasks is key. Brighter lights for when you need to get things done and soft lighting from lamps or dimmable fixtures for when you need to relax. Consider a nook. If you have an unused corner, consider creating a small nook for relaxing. You’ll be surprised how small of a space you need to curl up in. This tactic works especially

well if your home is on the smaller side. Add greenery. Studies have shown that having plants within eyesight boosts our mood. Plus, many houseplants are known to purify the air – helping you to breathe easier both metaphorically and literally.

The greatest compliment my clients can give me is the referral of family and friends.
