DIYs Chapter 2 – Ripped jeans

Hey everyone! I hope you are all excited for the holidays as much as I am. Today, we will be looking at making your plain jeans into ripped jeans, this can be a very basic form of thrifting if you think about it. This DIY contains the use of sharp objects. You have been warned. Secondly, you need to gather supplies to distress and rip the jeans. For

Firstly, grab your pair of denim (or other) jeans, I got mine from a thrift shop. The knees already look a little worn which saves time on sanding it. The parts that we will be ripping are the knees and a small patch on the left thigh.

distressing I used a piece of rough sandpaper (but you can also use a pumice stone). For ripping, I used a Stanley knife, but be careful, cardboard block which was placed inside the leg of the pants at the knee region, you don’t want to rip the other side of the jeans. you don’t want to cut yourself. I used a small

After you have finished cutting the areas where you want the rip, use the sandpaper and rub horizontally, make sure to hold down one side to it does not slide everywhere. Your jeans should somewhat look like this depending on where and how you are ripping. But this is not enough, it looks like we have cut am unworn pair of jeans (which we have shhh) but it is not the effect we want so we continue to distress with the sand paper horizontally until all the light blue or white strings are visible.

Thirdly, you can finally start distressing. I used the pumice stone first so distress then the sandpaper. You basically just get your distressing material and rub the region until the material becomes thin. At this point, there will be a lot of loose fluff so be sure to have a vacuum handy. After distressing, I used my Stanley knife cut into the pants where I want the tears to be.

Because there were still pieces of denim attached, you can use tweezers to remove them but be careful because you do not want to rip the strings (unless you want to)

Finally, You can keep distressing with sandpaper until it looks about right and VIOLA! Congratulations, you have a pair of ripped jeans yay! 
