Ulster Rugby vs Treviso

ANDREW TRIMBLE: 190 Andrew Trimble will become Ulster’s most capped player tonight when he runs out to make his 190th appearance for his province, overtaking the previous record held by Paddy Wallace. We caught up with the history- maker to get his thoughts on his first 190 games in the white jersey:

ANDREW TRIMBLE

What are your aims for the future? AT It seems a little bit strange getting to 190 now having only played one game for Ulster in the past 12 months. So my aim is just to build on that now. I want to perform well on Friday night and get momentum. We have a long stretch of 12 games and it’s important that we continue to build performances, both as individuals and as a team and get our season on track. How many caps do you want to reach before hanging up the boots? AT It is important to continue to be greedy really and to motivate myself to achieve something extra. I never thought that I would get to 190 when I started my career and now I want to get to 200, even 250 and keep pushing it. I want to experience putting on a white shirt as much as I can. If I slow down the likes of Roger Wilson is just behind me, Rory isn’t far away. Then Gilroy (Craig) and the rest of the youngsters are going to overtake us! For now, I’m just enjoying being a part of Ulster Rugby and achieving something that I am really proud of.

What will it mean to become Ulster’s all-time appearance record holder? AT Whenever I started my career I wouldn’t have dreamed that I would get to 190 appearances for Ulster. Every game has been unbelievable, especially the matches at Kingspan Stadium on a Friday night. Paddy (Wallace) is a guy who I have a massive amount of respect for so overtaking his total means a lot. It’s going to be a very special night for me. What games do you remember in particular? AT There are a few stand out moments. I will never forget the night that I kicked the ground against Scarlets and fell over and everyone laughed at me! For a better reason I will never forget the day that we beat Munster in the quarter-final down at Thomond Park. I’ll never forget getting the chance to play in the Heineken Cup Final. Obviously, it didn’t go our way but to be part of a team that is building and growing is special. I’m sure that we are on the brink of winning some silverware soon. Winning 190 caps is amazing, I’m very proud of that, but we want to win something.
