4. Night porter / Night cover Role

Night porter / Night cover Role

It is a requirement that there is a person fulfilling this role each night in the hotel. We must have someone on site who can be contacted in an emergency by a guests, who can deal with any disruptive behaviour and also co ordinate any emergency situation or evacuation. Where a hotel has more than 20 rooms a night porter is able to be employed each night. For any hotel with less than 20 rooms then a live in member of management will fulfil this role as night cover. A night porter can employed 2 nights a week to allow for days off.

The night porter / cover have nightly checks to complete to ensure the hotel is safe. This is recorded on the electronic Business Checks using the Blue Sky system.

The night porter / cover require access to an evacuation pack consisting of a high visibility acket, torch, evacuation checklist and the guest in rooms report / any personal evacuation plans for guests with disabilities. Every night porter/night cover employee must be First Aid trained.

5. Safety Audits

Safety Audits

An audit of the Hotel Operation will take place twice a year. This is a separate audit to the Retail business Food Fire and Health & Safety Audit.

The audit template is held for reference on the Outlet Document Library – Safety Assurance page.

An online report will be produced with a link to the audit sent directly to site. This will include any actions for any outstanding areas requiring attention. It is the managers’ responsibility to rectify all action points noted and update the audit action plan once complete.

Regional Business Managers will have access to the audit report and are also required to ensure all action points are resolved.

6. Fire Evacuations

Please refer to all policies detailed in the Mitchells & Butlers Retail Fire Safety Policy.

Fire Safety Training All Lodge team members will undergo induction training which is refreshed 4 times a year regarding fire safety. Guest In House Reports These should be run every 2 hours from 3pm as guests start to check in to ensure the list is up to date in the event of an evacuation. Night porters Night porters must keep details of the guests checked in (Guest in house Report); this can be used to ensure all guests are accounted for during an evacuation. Lodge Specific: If a serious Incident occurs on your premises involving a hotel guest the following procedures should be followed additionally. • Notify Central Reservations – i.e. Business closure • Provide situation updates to other guests when required • Take advise via your RBM if he/she is not available, your RD and inform him/her of the details (Financial implications) • Do not make any comment to the press but instead refer them to Public Relations at RSC • If problem persists relocate guests to alternative IKL accommodation • Increase security surveillance The Night porter must have access to an evacuation kit of high visibility jacket, torch and guest details.
