… At home yesterday I checked P’s list against the records: he remembers quite well and it is rather amazing; this would seem to indicate that each withdrawal was associated with a specific purpose. Anyway I am now able to establish that, beyond and above the ten lakhs he took with the Barclays card, he would have earlier taken about 3 lakhs from the CB card + what he also took, when he started with my old SBI card before I had it cancelled… What prevented me from finding out earlier is that both Barclays and CL banks stopped sending records by post at the same time, and I was not able to learn, for a long period, how to consult the accounts via Internet (and I did not think there was any reason to check anything, until the man in Barclays who was my consultant asked me why I was making so many withdrawals without informing him in advance…) And that is not counting all I had to spend for his hospital expenses in Chennai and, later, for his land purchases, not to mention his basic running expenses… Perhaps a total amount of 18 lakhs or so…! ,,, I can’t help wondering, with bemusement, at the betrayals I have experienced in this life (whether P’s or Manikandan’s or Kireet Joshi’s in the recent past, to think of the variety of ways…!). But I can’t blame anything or anyone really: I took the risks and cannot complain… However, where each person is concerned, it has been damaging, because their actions were profoundly unethical and it requires a sort of heroism to one day own up to it… And in that sense I regret having been an instrument of that inner failure…
