Rocking Horse Nursery

ROCKING Horse Nursery is determined to be the first-choice childcare option for Newbury. This summer the country basked in record-breaking temperatures and the staff at the nursery worked very hard to keep the chil- dren safe in the sun. Their hard work paid off and the nursery is delighted to have been awarded the Sun Safe Nursery mark. This year it was obviously very important to keep the children safe and cool and the staff had a catalogue of strategies to fulfil this. The extensive garden at the nursery has lots of natural shade, cleverly created by the building itself, but there were also tempo- rary structures installed around the garden to ensure the children were protected from the sun’s rays. Keeping little feet cool was turned into fun one afternoon when the children dug a big hole in the sandpit and filled it with water. One of the children was heard to say ‘it is just like being at the beach’. After further discussion they decided that ‘as it’s so hot it would be nice to go in the sea’... the best they could do was a watering can full of water, but it obviously worked as one of the children smiled and said ‘it is so refresh- ing’. Before the big heatwave hit, the nation welcomed a new prince into the world and the children were very excited about this. Prince Louis was born on April 23

well-stocked library, sensory room and fun child-sized kitchen where the children occasionally prepare and cook their own food.

Rocking Horse Nursery is committed to being Newbury’s most advanced childcare option. The purpose-built facility is constantly being improved and staff training means the care the children receive is first class. Offering six age-related playrooms and large gardens, children from birth to school age are accommodated. In addition, there is a beautiful

Some arrived during the night, but the children were delighted to see one little girl appear from her egg. They are currently fascinated by the others tapping away from inside their shells, hoping they will see them pop out very soon. The children will have the opportunity to handle the chicks and watch them before they are sent off to their forever home in a few weeks.

and the children quickly went to work on a card congratulating the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their new arrival. Their excitement piqued in June when a thank you card, featuring a picture of the baby prince, arrived on the door mat. It’s not all play at Rocking Horse Nursery, even though the chil- dren think it is… please don’t tell them.

The staff are well-practised at encouraging and developing fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination. Getting their hands sticky with spaghetti and jelly and using pegs are tried and tested activities, which the little ones absolutely love, but build physical skills. This Autumn, the children are excitedly watching baby chicks being born.

There are limited places available at the nursery.
