The family had two rodeos at their ranch near Diamond Springs, Kan., in 1945 and 1946. PRCA and National Finals Rodeo announcer Bob Chambers was stationed at Fort Riley and won the bull riding one year. Several cowboys in the Cavalry at nearby Fort Riley came to compete, some later stayed at the ranch when on leave. He joined the Cowboys’ Turtle Association and was a gold card member of the PRCA, No. 508. Barr competed in bareback riding and bull riding and was a PRCA announcer. He was at a performance of the Strong City Rodeo every year for 81 years from its inception in 1937 to 2018 as a spectator, contestant, committeeman or announcer. He announced Strong City seven times and announced other rodeos for stock contractor Emmett Roberts and ProRodeo Hall of Fame sons Ken and Gerald. He is survived by wife, Darlene; children, J.C. Barr (Judy), Frank Barr (Carrie), Anne Shaver (Jesse); five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and brother Gene (Nita). Bryant “Peanut” Pierce Jr., a native and resident of Larose, La., and PRCA bullfighter, passed away July 1. He was 41. Bryant was preceded in death BRYANT (PEANUT) PIERCE JR.

CURTIS EUGENE (GENE) PEACOCK JR.

Curtis Eugene “Gene” Peacock Jr., 91, of Emporia, Kan., a former PRCA competitor,

passed away June 26. Peacock was born June 13, 1928, in Bowlegs, Okla., to Curtis E. Sr. and Marie M. (Taylor) Peacock. He spent his life immersed in rodeo and the cattle business. By the time Peacock was 15,

he was competing in the bareback riding, bull riding and saddle bronc riding – he rodeoed fromWashington State to the East Coast. He competed at Madison Square Garden in New York City five times. During his rodeo days he became friends with Gerald and Ken Roberts and lived with the Roberts family off and on. He also worked for the world champion brothers with the Roberts’ stock contracting business as arena director and flankman – often competing at the rodeos he worked. Peacock quit competing in 1965. Throughout his career, he traveled with the likes of Charlie Beales, Jack Buschbom and Wallace Brooks, brother to world champion Lewis Brooks. Peacock had been an order buyer in Oklahoma, and in the early 1960s his company moved him to Strong City, Kan., to work at their feed yard, the Crofoot Cattle Co. He wound up managing the feed yard and became a board member of the Strong City (Kan.) PRCA rodeo. Up until his retirement Peacock owned and operated Rib Eye Cattle Company. Peacock married Barbara E. Plugge.
