Abraham Lincoln was the 16 th president of the United States. He was one of the most famous presidents.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. He was born in the state of Kentucky.

Abe Lincoln lived in a log cabin. It was made of logs. A lot of people lived in log cabins back then.

Back then, people cooked food in a fireplace. Houses did not have electric ovens.

Outhouse

Back then, people did not have a toilet in their house. The toilet was outside. It was called an outhouse.

Back then, people did not have electricity. Lincoln loved to read books. He used a lantern to see at night.

When Abraham Lincoln grew up, he became the president of the United States! His nickname was “Honest Abe”.

8 Lincoln’s wife was Mary Todd. They had 3 sons. The president and his family lived in the White House.

Abraham Lincoln was president during the Civil War. Lincoln kept the country together.

10 John Wilkes Booth was angry about the Civil War. He shot Lincoln at Ford Theater. President Lincoln died.

Lincoln Memorial Monument

The Lincoln Memorial was a monument built in Washington D.C. The statue and monument were built to honor Abraham Lincoln.

Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore is a monument in South Dakota. It was made to honor Lincoln and three other famous presidents. Their faces are carved into a mountain.

Today, a picture of Abraham Lincoln is on the front of the five- dollar bill. A picture of the Lincoln Memorial is on the back of the bill. This was another way to honor him.
