3071 接收廣西地區郵局 Taking Over Kwangsi Post Offices
In October, the Kuomintang’s retreated armies of over 150,000 built a strong defensive line from Guilin to Nanning. The People’s Liberation Army responded with a three front attack. Consequently, the entire Kwangsi province fell to the Communist in early December. On 4th November 1949, the Kwangtung People’s Postal Administration issued the “Liberation of Canton” stamps. These stamps were to be used in Kwangtung and Kwangsi. Upon taking over the post offices in Kwangsi, the Kwangsi MCC announced the acceptance of Silver Yuan Postage for two weeks after the liberation dates of the locations. 49年10月國民黨集結15萬從各地潰敗下來的軍隊,在桂林至南寧建立防線,解放軍以三面進攻應對,12月初該防線全面 崩潰,廣西全省解放。49年11月4日,廣東人民郵政発行「廣州解放紀念」郵票,該票在廣東、廣西使用,但當接收了廣 西一帶郵局後, 軍管會宣布銀元郵資(郵票)仍可沿用兩週。 The recipient of this letter, Mr. Wong Shek Bin a Hong Kong millionaire, was kidnapped and murdered in 1960. His friend in Liuchow mailed two letters to him after liberation of the city. Both of them are included in this collection, but received different treatments (please see Lot 3155). This cover (piece) was sent on 5th December 1949 from Liuchow (49.11.25) to Hong Kong. 5th December 1949 was within the grace period.
