ture emerged…This is a fantastic evolutionary process! – According to you, the architect is the cli- max of evolution. – Indeed so, absolutely! This is a person able to realize everything he knows about humanity through his projects – its customs and commu- nication channels. About how humans should live their lives, work, have fun, sleep, procre- ate, eat and drink, drive around. The architect must know structures and technologies, be able to calculate the costs and complexity of build- ing this or that structure. He must estimate re- mote consequences of his projects. He must think of all kinds of minor things, such as how people are going to store their cucumbers or cast the first sunlight through their windows in the morning. He must be to an extent a philoso- pher, a mathematician, a physicist, a chemist, a manager, but primarily on artists. He must be a universally educated person because he has to contact a great number of people who trust him with their dreams, hopes, ideas and old favorite toys. The architect as many things delegated to him, and he leaves the most lasting footprint. – In that old interview, you also said that architecture was truth seeking for you. After the five years, is the truth closer? – It is, but just as before it is surrounded by numerous lies and myths. Each time you want to touch it, it takes increasingly more effort, time and nerves. Honestly, I’m very tired trying to confront loutish, conforming and incompe- tent officers, and having to overcome resistance of the deformed and twisted space of our life in Moscow. But life gives new strengths that come with new circumstances. My professional line of ac- tion has not changed. I have remained true to my own self. And I’m still full of strength and plans for the future. I still speak what I think, un- derstand for my principles and beliefs. There is nothing I’m afraid of. I do what I want to do, I build the way I think necessary and possible. I cherish creative freedom without which it would not survive. There are many things that I still want to build.

Потому что ему приходится иметь дело с очень большим количеством людей, которые доверяют ему свои мечты, надеж- ды, опыт, свои замыслы и старые любимые игрушки. Архитектору очень много делегиро- вано. И от него надолго остается самый весо- мый след. – В том интервью вы еще говорили, что архитектура для вас – это поиск истины. Истина стала ближе за эти пять лет? – Да, но только она по-прежнему окруже- на большим количеством лжи и мифов. Каж- дый раз, чтобы до нее докопаться, приходит- ся тратить все больше сил, времени и нерв- ных клеток. Честно говоря, я очень устал от противостояния хамству, конформизму и не- компетентности наших чиновников, от посто- янного преодоления сопротивления дефор- мированного и искаженного пространства нашей здешней московской жизни. Но жизнь дает новые силы, ко- торые приходят с новыми обстоя- тельствам. Моя профессиональ- ная линия поведения не измени- лась. Я остаюсь самим собой. Я по-прежнему полон сил и планов. Я по-прежнему говорю правду, от- стаивая свои принципы и убеж- дения. Мне ничего не страшно. Я делаю то, что хочу, строю так, как считаю должным и возможным. Я очень ценю творческую свободу. Мне без нее никак! Я еще очень много хочу построить.
