HISTORY Betty’s Hope is the site of colonial Antigua’s largest sugar plantation. When Antigua and Barbuda belonged to the British, the visitor’s center was a cotton house. Nelson’s Dockyard National Park is named after Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson, who was based here between 1784 and Harbour Town includes a collection of his artifacts (including his telescope). Overlooking this is Shirley Heights – formerly a military lookout point for Nelson. You can still see canons and the remnants of the barracks and fortifications.
