The double-height loggia with barbecue is at the heart of this idyllic retreat designed by Edward Jones. The design follows the Le Corbusier principle of allowing the house to act as a mechanism for viewing the landscape, in this case the wooded valleys of the Haut Var and the Mediterranean beyond, best admired through the arches of the 196-foot pergola. Whitewashed rooms are simply furnished with tables by Eileen Gray and Thonet Bentwood chairs. These hilltop villages are popular with high-profile types including the Beckhams.
