Brooks wins Prescott as part of lucrative Christmas run

BY TRACY RENCK D uring Cowboy Christmas, Chase Brooks went from outside the Top 25 in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings to a potential qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The saddle bronc rider from Belgrade, Mont., had everything click during the most lucrative time of the regular season, winning $30,769. Part of Brooks’ haul came at the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Ariz. (June 28-July 4).

Brooks had an 86-point ride on Harry Vold Rodeo’s Matterhorn to win the title during his inaugural appearance at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds. “I called ZekeThurston because I saw he had that horse in San Antonio earlier this year,” said Brooks, 23. “He told me the horse was awesome, and he gave me a report on him. The horse was just freaking awesome. It was one of his best trips, and it was a crazy experience for me to win at such a sweet rodeo like Prescott.” The victory earned Brooks a $6,119 payday. That was one of several checks Brooks cashed during Cowboy Christmas.
