Meet The Toreros ---------17 Josh Sanders enters his junior year where he is again projected to start at offensive guard ... he played a key role with last year's offens ive line unit that helped the Toreros lead I-AA in total offense at 483.3 yards per game . .. came to USD from Miamj, Florida, where he prepped at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School ... senior year totaled 80 tackles while earn ing 2 nd Team All Miami-Dade County honors ... played in the Miamj-Dade All-Star game his senior year .. . during his junior campaign he finished with 60 tackles while garnering honorable mention recognitir.r. .. a: s:, l:':ttered in wrestling . .. enjoys playing Madden football games and is a fan of the Miami Dolphins . . . aJ:; c nnuited by South Florida, Baylor, St. Peter's and Jacksonville ... chose USD to get a quality education, its great location, and to play football. Matt Koller enters rus third year with the USD football program ... he moves to the tight end position where he will compete for playing time with the offense ... last year he saw limjted time at full back, carrying the ball twice against Marist, and also chipped in with five tackles

(2 agai nst Butler) ... he prepped at Oak Park High School where as a senior in 2001 he hauled in 46 receptions wrule earning AJJ-Tri Valley League honors and All-County recognition ... he set the school record for most catches in a game with 10 ... also lettered in baseball where he was All-League, All-County and Honorable Mention All-CIF ... in baseball he batted .489 and led the team in RBIs and doubles ... chose USD for its location, education and football program ... also recruited by Saint Mary ' s, Williamette, Western Oregon and Cal Poly ... Major: Business.

Matt Koller #27 JR TE

Kyson Hawkins enters hi s sophomore year where he will compete for playing time at linebacker ... last year he contributed 9 tackles and l fumble recovery (vs. La Verne) for the Toreros .. . his best game came in win over Butler where he totaled 5 stops (2 solo) ...

came to USD via Fall brook High School where in his senior year was tabbed the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-CIF with team goi ng 8-4 and advancing to CIF Semjfinals . . . during his junior campaign earned All-League and honorable mention All-CIF honors with team winning League Championship ... during sophomore campaign was member of 11-2 squad that won the CIF Championship ... chose USD for people, academics and athletics . .. also recruited by San Diego State, Colorado State, Georgetown and UC Davis ... is a Dean's List Presidential Scholar.

Kyson Hawkins #46 SO LB

Jon Polk enters hi s sophomore year where he will again compete for playing time at fullback ... last season he played a key role in USD's offense with hi s run blocking ability and pass

protection ... he finished with 31 yards rushing on the season, including 15 yards and 1TD in win over Butler ... was named to the PFL Honor Roll for hi s academic achievements ... came to USD from Dominguez High School where he was a two-way performer .. . he rushed for over 1,000 yards while earning AII-CIF, All-Region and All-San Gabriel Valley honors ... also lettered in basketball ... chose USD for location and chance to play collegiate football ... also recruited by San Diego State, Colorado State and Penn . Major: Political Science.

Jon Polk #38 SO RB

Kaea Simeona enters his third year at USD ... the 2004 football campaign will be his second

competitive season where he will again compete for playing time with the offensive line unit at center ... last season he was the team's starting center before being lost for the season with injury . . . from Honolulu, Hawaii, Kaea played football for Kamehameha Schools ... senior year team went 9-1-1 and junior campaign the squad went 8-2. Major:

Kaea Simeona #51 SO OL

ToddMortensen will play his first and only season with USD after transferring from BYU ... will start at quarterback for the Toreros and play a key leadership role ... a graduate

student, he' ll pursue a Master's degree in History ... a three-year letterman for the Cougars, Mortensen graduated cumma sum laude with a 4.0 grade-point average in 2003 ... he was a four-year recipient of the Gordon B. Hinckley Scholarship - the most prestigious scholarship awarded to a BYU student ... playing a backup role at quarterback for the Cougars, he competed in 14 games over his career, completing 27 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown ... he served as chair for both BYU and Mountain West Conference Student Athlete Advisory Councils ... from Tempe, Arizona, he attended Tempe High where he was 1" Team All-State as a senior while throwing for 2,500 yards and 32 TDs ... team went 14-0 and won state championship ... junior year was 2 nd Team All-State while throwing for 23 TDs and 1,900 yards .. . also lettered in basketball , baseball and track ... speaks Spanish fluently after serving a

Todd Mortensen #16 GR QB

2 year church mi ssion in Caracas, Venezuela ... he and hi s wife, Lori, were married in 2003 ... he is an accomplished pianist and composer.
