The Port of Copenhagen

GENERAL INFORMATION

Hunker Coal and Oil In the Outer Harbour, opposite the Free Port, a most up- to-date plant for supplying bunker coal is operated by the Copenhagen Bunker Coal Depot ( P . 7 ) . Bunkers are sup plied by 2 electrical cranes, each of which is capable of supplying 100 tons per hour. For supplying motor vessels and oil-burning ships with fuel there are plants of the most modern type in the Free Port at the Redmole ( S . 6 ) . Here various firms have their oil in stallations and are able to bunker ships at the rate of 250 tons per hour per pump. Fuel oil and lubricating oil may also be supplied from tank- lighters anywhere in the harbour or in the Roadstead. This service is of great importance, especially with regard to lu bricating oils, as the slow method of emptying barrels into ships’ tanks is avoided. The lighters have a pumping capa city of 250 tons per hour. The depth of water alongside the oil piers is 9.5 and 9.1 metres and the navigation conditions are so ideal that it is possible to berth and leave without tug-boat assistance. The coal and oil bunker stations are open day and night. A large quantity of bunker coal and fuel oil is always avail able, making Copenhagen a very attractive port of call. There is no loading charge fo r bunker coal or oil. Ships calling at the Port to bunker coal or oil only are exempted from dues the first four days. Stores Stores of every description are procurable from numerous ship chandler firms.
