I had a south west team of 21 anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, physios, radiographers, F1 administrator and medical students running a clinic and trauma ward rounds at Coast General Hospital. I had gone expecting this to be our last Mombasa trip. I couldn’t have been more wrong… A new surgeon has now taken over who assisted us in getting many other staff involved enabling us to take the project forwards both operatively and educationally by running the GRASP course (course for nurses and doctors in recognising sick patients and managing trauma patients) and trained over 100 doctors and nurses during the week. We saw about 80 patients and performed 47 procedures during the week. In 2012 I’m hoping the trauma and rural health clinic projects will be able to combine with some of the education and training we’re offering”
