usa Strength & Conditioning The University of San Diego Athletic Department has made a commitment to increase the athl etic ability of the entire student ath lete population . Therefore, each student athlete will be given a sport specific training program based on the metabolic demands of their position and sport. Thi s is accomp li shed by training for the proper combination of power, strength , size, speed, agility, flexibility, endurance, and footwork. It is the responsibility of the strength and conditioning staff to design and implement wo rkouts, teach and demonstrate proper lifting technique, and to monitor and evaluate each individual ath lete's progress, while maintaining a positive environment to train in .

Student athl etes at the University of San Diego train in the new ly rebuilt USO Sports Center weight room. The 5,000 sq ft faci lity contains 12 power racks, 8 Olympic lifting platforms, various selectori zed and plate loaded machin– ery, and over 7500 lbs of free wei ght. Thi s fac ili ty is also equipped with an add iti onal 1800 sq uare feet of artifi cial tur f that is used fo r team agility, plyometric, and fl ex ibility training. The goa l of the strength and conditi on– ing department is to educate and moti– vate each student athlete to maximize their geneti c potential and create an en– vironment where athl etes can develop into champions both menta ll y and physi– ca ll y.
