Babesta Beat AW16

WE GOT TO sit down with Jen Genel, pre and postpartum New York associate at Twin Love Concierge, a premium maternity service exclusively for parents of multiples, to get some great advice for two-sies. Although we have many clients with twins, Twin Love Concierge is our go-to resource when questions that take extra expertise come up! “When you’re having twins it can become overwhelming very quickly. Knowing what’s essential to buy and what doesn’t need to be purchased is key,” Genel says. A mother of twins herself, she started down this path out of necessity, on a quest to find the best information for herself. Genel knows that the ever-challenging lack of space in the city is of even greater importance when you’re talking twins: “Factor in the space in which you live, and your lifestyle. Those living in apartments have to really think about how much their space can hold.” We all know raising kids in the city is both rewarding and challenging, but if you master the basics (sleeping, eating and strolling), you’re well on your way to “call the round” with your perfect pair. WHY WE LOVE IT: VERY NATURAL, MOST LIKE MOM!

Comotomo bottle 8oz. , 30291, $14.

Sleeping: “As long as twins are positioned a correct distance apart they can share a crib for up to 3 months of age. We use 3 months as our maximum cutoff as that is when some babies start to roll and it could potentially turn into a dangerous situation. We refer to the proper crib arrangement now as a naked crib—so mattress, waterproof mattress protector, crib sheet and no blankets, pillows, toys or any items that can potentially become a SIDS risk. And of course keep babies on their back!” Eating: “When your twins are first born, you’re typically feeding them every 3 hours. We teach our families how to put their twins on a feeding schedule. Without a schedule, you will be feeding your babies around the clock and never have a moment to catch your breath. We also educate our families on how to feed the babies together whether you are nursing or bottle feeding. As far as gliders go, we always recommend that you buy one with low arm rests, so you can easily accommodate a nursing pillow and of course your two little ones.” Strolling: “Side by side or tandem? Our city families are looking for terrific light, sturdy strollers with lots of storage space. Their stroller ultimately becomes an extension of their apartment. Getting around the city with twins can be tricky. It’s hard to get up and down those subway steps and in order to ride the bus, you must fold up your stroller. Walking is really the best way to move about. NYC is such an amazing city to walk around. Get on some cute, comfy kicks—put your twins in their stroller and head out the door.”
