THANK YOU

Dear Neighbors, Late one Friday afternoon at the end of May, I found myself accidentally locked out of the house as I arrived home from the 6:00 p.m. ferry with my friend, Kathleen, and her granddaughter. Never fear, I soon realized. Our own mini “rescue squad” found a solution, and we made it safely inside before dark fell. Many thanks to Bob and Paula Libby, Ralph Munroe and his cousin Todd, as well as Kim Boehm, who takes cares of things electrical at the house. As Bob told me, as he drove me to the house, this sense of community support is the essence of Chebeague. He sure was right. I will continue to rely on this network in the coming years, as my three sons and their families and I hope to remain a part of island life. This is our second home. Fondly, Mary Ann Hales HEARTFELT THANKS Dear Folks, After nearly a month in the hospital, it is good to be back home again, breathing in good Chebeague air, which is guaranteed to cure what ails you. At this time, I would like to express my gratitude to Ester Knight for alerting the rescue team that I was in big trouble, as well as the rescue team and boat crew, all of whom thankfully responded promptly. It was a scary time, but with the love and prayers from you all, I have made it home intact. Now, with the tender loving care of Laura and David, life Thank You from the Family of Victoria Smith (Grammy Toe) The family of Victoria Smith (Grammy Toe) thanks you all for the outpouring of love and comfort bestowed upon Toe and all of us. Special thanks to the Island Commons Resource Center, the Ladies of the Commons, Ginny Ballard, the Chebeague Island Rescue, and Hospice of Southern Maine (all of whom contributed to Victoria’s ability to “age in place,” which provided her with peace of mind when it mattered most); to the Chebeague Island United Methodist Church, which enriched Toe’s faith for decades, and Pastor Melissa Yosua-Davis, who honored Toe’s life with visits, and a wonderful, loving celebration. We so appreciate everyone’s heartfelt contributions— the lovely cards, words of warmth, offers of support, and countless acts of kindness. Thank you, one and all, for honoring our mother’s/grandmother’s/great- grandmother’s life on Chebeague. will soon be back to normal. Thanks so much, everyone. Fran Calder
