Notes from the Historical Society

The Chebeague Historical Society Museum & Gift Shop is now open for the season. Our hours are Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This year’s exhibit is entitled “Home and Community— Chebeague’s Domestic Architecture: Settlement to 1890.”

On Tuesday July 26 th there will be a presentation by Dan Lynch, the archaeologist who researched the island cemeteries and, using ground- penetrating radar, was able to identify 53 burial sites at the West End Cemetery Site. Tuesday August 9, 10:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Tickets on sale July 18 at the Museum (846-5237) $25 in advance, $30 on the day of the tour Enjoy lunch with a view, visit 9 historically significant Island homes, and support the Museum .
