Yalumba first began making wines at its Angaston winery 170 years ago, and the production of fortified wine has long been part of that history. By the early 1900s, Yalumba was supplying the world with these wines—from the connoisseurs of London’s gentlemen’s clubs to the British Raj in India. In fact, on Christmas Day 1929 a bottle of Yalumba Four Crown "Port" even found its way onto the table of Sir Douglas Mawson’s Antarctic Expedition. Following a 50-year-old tradition the very best barrels from each vintage continue to be selected and tucked away in the museum cellar, and it is from these time capsules the fortified collection is blended each year.

"Fortified wines allow us to create veritable time capsules in a glass. They

reflect the quality of our fruit, the strength of our combined endeavor in the vineyard and the cellar, as well as our mastery of an age-old winemaking world. They salute our tenacity, resilience and entrepreneurial spark throughout five generations of family winemaking. Through gold rushes and world wars, revolutions and depressions, financial crashes and digital transformations there has been one constant in Australian wine— Yalumba's fortified collection." —Jane Ferrari Yalumba Storyteller
