Farmer’s Market This design and clothing brand (left) was set up in Reykjavík in 2005. Its key values are the use of natural fabrics, craftsmanship and respect for the environment. Very Icelandic. Painted houses Many Icelandic homes, old and new, are clad in corrugated metal or planks of wood (far left). This is often brightly painted. Outside Reykjavík many roads are made of gravel so a four-wheel-drive car is useful.

Fish Market One of the top restaurants in Reykjavík, Fish Market is owned and run by Hrefna Rósa Sætran (left). Most customers go for the tasting menu, which does include whale if you have always wanted to try it.

Reykjavík rooftops Take the elevator to the top of Hallgrímskirkja and look out across the brightly painted rooftops of Reykjavík (above). When the weather is good, you can see the mountains that surround the city.
