The UK’s capital, a hub of creativity, continues to excite – and nowhere more so than on the food and nightlife scenes. Look out for one-stop party palaces that seamlessly blend drinking, dining and dancing, such as MNKY HSE, Sumosan Twiga and Park Chinois. While for more ‘on the ground’ eating experiences, the city’s food markets have exploded in recent years — the original, Borough Market, now competing with Brixton Market and newcomer, Mercato Metropolitano. Bond Street, Sloane Street and Regent Street continue to lure shoppers, but for boutique buying, head to Spitalfields or Covent Garden and, if you can’t resist a mall, the designer Village at Westfield has everything you need. A West End theater or musical trip is still a must, and if you’re into museums make for the the newly opened The Design Museum and the recently expanded Tate Modern, both works of art in their own right. If buildings – and views – do it for you, the towering Shard is a must. Yes, the 95-story skyscraper is home to bars, restaurants and even a hotel, but you can just head up to the viewing platform of Western Europe’s tallest building, and drink in the view.
