Community Matters: Pitch in at Chedemption

Wow!! In 2017, volunteers from 13 island nonprofits packed and shipped off 40,951 glass bottles, 74,860 cans, and 16,310 plastic bottles. Impressive as those numbers sound, this task is never ending, and we need your help to keep this Chebeague Island Council program running.The Chedemption schedule for each nonprofit is listed to the right and posted on the back wall of the Chedemption shed under the roll of plastic bags. Your participation benefits each participating nonprofit, keeps several tons of trash from our waste stream, and helps ensure that our roadsides are free from bottle and can litter. So please call your favorite nonprofit and sign up for a slot or two! The Chedemption “Baggettes” could also use your help with the weekly task of loading boxes and bags for transport to Chandlers Wharf every Thursday at 7:45 a.m. Meet us at the transfer station.
