Lesson – Scheduling Tasks

R OLLING U P G ANTT B ARS TO A S UMMARY B AR

Discussion

The Gantt bar for a summary task has inverted triangles at both ends and extends from the earliest start date to the latest subtask finish. The individual Gantt bars for each subtask appear below the summary task bar when the subtasks are displayed. Roll up the individual Gantt bars to a summary task bar to better see how each subtask makes up the summary task. When you point to a rolled up subtask bar, a ScreenTip appears and displays the subtask name, duration, start and finish dates, as well as the text *Rolled Up Task .

NOTE Quickly display or remove multiple rolled up Gantt bars by selecting the appropriate subtasks and then opening the Task Information dialog box displaying the General page. Next, select or deselect the Roll up Gantt bar to summary option and select OK . If you want the rolled-up bars to display on the summary task bar by default, on the Format ribbon, select the Gantt Tools , Format tab then select the Layout command. In the Layout dialog box, select the Always roll up Gantt bars option and then select OK .

NOTE

For the rolled-up bars to appear on the summary task bar, in the Summary Task Information dialog box, on the General page, select the Rollup option. This option is selected by default for summary tasks. To open the Summary Task Information dialog box, double-click the summary task. Apply the Rollup up for the Project Summary task.
